In 1883 a Vendor on the original Atlantic City Boardwalk was offering a new candy called “taffy” when an August storm unexpectedly sprayed ocean salt water over his stock. The innovative vendor changed the candy name to “Salt-Water” Taffy and sales boomed.
Taffy was made by hand until 1900-1905 when machinery was created. The Florida Candy Factory, Inc., is an authentic manufacturer of the original taffy formulation and actually uses original equipment from the 1900's to pull, cut and wrap our product. This "old fashioned" formulation is believed to provide the most desired taste and texture of any of the salt-water taffy being manufactured. We are proud to be the manufacturer of this authentic "old fashioned" American keep sake, but we are the most proud to better the original recipe by eliminating all transfat and soy from the product. Only the best ingredients are used to provide the best tasting taffy available. And as always, each 270-pound batch receives the personal attention of our "candy maker" who inspects and accepts only the highest quality product.
Through our experience, the twelve- (12) flavors that are most preferred are listed as follows:
